Special Issue: Aspect-Oriented Software Development

URL: http://www.teccomm.les.inf.puc-rio.br/jsbc_aosd/

THEME

The Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS -
http://www.icmc.usp.br/~jbcs/)
seeks high quality manuscripts for a special issue on Aspect-Oriented
Software Development.
Over the past years, the object paradigm has consolidated as the
state-of-the-art on the
development of software systems. However, object-oriented abstractions and
composition mechanisms do not support the separation and composition of
all relevant concerns in the software development. Many concerns crosscut
several
system modules, which makes the software difficult to understand, maintain
and reuse.
Classical examples of crosscutting concerns are logging, error handling,
concurrency,
security, and persistence.

Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD) is a new software engineering
paradigm
based on the concepts of Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP). AOP encompasses
a new abstraction - called "aspect" - and new composition mechanisms that
support
the modular description and composition of crosscutting concerns. This
special issue
is interested in papers reporting on research on all facets of AOSD
techniques in the
context of all phases of the software life cycle, from requirements and
design to
implementation, maintenance and evolution. We also particularly welcome
submissions
approaching the systematic evaluation of such techniques and their impact on
improving quality attributes of software systems.

TOPICS

This journal issue is intended to cover wide ranges of topics of AOSD, from
theoretical foundations to
empirical studies. We welcome the submission of papers in all perspectives
of AOSD, including
the following (but are not limited to):

- Industrial Applications of AOSD
- Experimental Studies
- Aspect Interference and Composition
- Requirements Engineering / Early Aspects
- Software Architecture and Product Lines
- Modelling Languages
- UML and MDA
- Aspect-Oriented Domain-Specific Languages
- Software Process
- Assessment and Metrics
- Reuse, Maintainability and Adaptability
- Verification, Validation and Testing
- Comparative Studies between AOSD and other Development Paradigms
- Contracts, Components and Aspects
- Dynamic (Re)Configuration
- Computational Reflection and Meta-Level Programming
- Software Reengineering and Refactoring
- Formal Methods
- Development Methods
- Tools and Integrated Development Environments

SUBMISSION

Submissions must be in English and should be no more than 20 pages long,
including all text,
figures and references. The final manuscript should be approximately 8000
words in length.
The first page should contain the title of the paper, author(s) names and
affiliation(s), keywords
(not more than 6 keywords), abstract (no more than 250 words) and the name,
fax number and
complete mailing address (both postal and e-mail) of the person to whom
correspondence should
be sent. All contributions will be acknowledged and refereed.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically in pdf format via the
website at
<http://www.teccomm.les.inf.puc-rio.br/jsbc_aosd/>http://www.teccomm.les.inf.puc-rio.br/jsbc_aosd/.

Please forward any questions about this special issue to the guest
editors at the e-mail addresses below.
