THEME AND OBJECTIVES
--------------------------------------

“.NET meets the Innovation of Software Technology”

Software is increasingly pervading every aspect of our lives.
At the same time, we are also progressively expecting it to be
more evolvable, dependable, context-aware, self-manageable,
and usable, despite the modern software features of ubiquity,
mobility, unpredictability, and stringent adaptability needs. As
a result, we have naturally faced a non-stop innovation of software
technology. A plethora of software development paradigms and
techniques have been emerging over the last years in the different
fields of Computer Science, each of them taming a specific complexity
dimension on the development of contemporary software systems.
They range from fundamental software engineering approaches to
promote increased software modularity and evolvability, such as
Aspect-Oriented Software Development, Component-Based Software
Engineering, and Model-Driven Development, to paradigms and
techniques addressing primary requirements of modern software,
such as Pervasive Computing, Virtual Reality, Multiagent Systems,
and Web Services. In order to fully address the challenges of
developing high-quality contemporary software systems, synergy
needs to be established across this increasing set of available
techniques and paradigms.

In this context, the second edition of IVNET – Innovative Views of
.NET Technologies - elicits high-quality papers that present any
innovative view on the integration of .NET technologies and emerging
software paradigms and techniques from different areas of Computer
Science, such as Software Engineering, Programming Languages,
Distributed Systems, Databases, and Human Computer Interface.
IVNET 2006 will be a co-located event of the XX ACM/SIGSOFT
Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering (SBES) and
XXI ACM/SIGMOD Brazilian Symposium on Databases (SBBD).
The event aims at bringing together practitioners and researchers
from academia and the industry to discuss the latest developments
in .NET and advance the state of the art in the research on related
technologies.

PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
--------------------------------------------------------

Submitted papers must not have been published or concurrently
submitted/considered for publication elsewhere. All submissions will
be judged on the basis of originality, contribution to the field, technical
and presentation quality, and relevance to the conference. Each paper
will be refereed by at least 3 reviewers. Submissions must be in English
and should be no more than 20 pages long (Springer LNCS format),
including all text, figures and references. The first page should contain
the title of the paper, author(s) names and affiliation(s), keywords (not
more than 6 keywords), abstract (no more than 250 words) and the
name, fax number and complete mailing address (both postal and
e-mail) of the person to whom correspondence should be sent. All
contributions will be acknowledged and refereed. Papers should be
submitted electronically in pdf format via the IVNET.06 website. The
accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings to
be edited as a LNCS/Springer volume. For more details, please also
consult the IVNET.06 website at: http://www.teccomm.les.inf.puc-
rio.br/ivNet06/cfp.htm. Please forward any further questions to the
PC Chair at the e-mail address provided below.

BEST PAPER AWARD
-----------------------------

Three papers will be nominated to the “Best Paper Award”. Organizers
are planning to invite the authors of nominated papers to submit extended
versions of their contributions to a first class journal, such as Journal of
Systems and Software. Microsoft will donate a laptop to the authors of the
best paper award recipient, which will be announced during the Conference.

THE VENUE
----------------

Located on the Island of Santa Catarina, Florianopolis, the capital of the
state of Santa Catarina is one of the most beautiful cities in Brazil. It
features a wonderful landscape, with forty-two astonishing beaches, two
magnificent lagoons, and good infrastructure. It offers high quality of life.
The climate is very pleasant, with average temperature around 21ºC in
October. The major economical activities of this city (with approximately
260.000 inhabitants) are tourism, commerce, services and clean industry.
It also hosts a Technology Center (Tecnópolis), which concentrates
important companies and produces a significant share of the software
made in Brazil. Florianópolis is served by an international airport and is
linked to several cities and the Mercosul countries through daily flights.
By road it is 300 km far from Curitiba, 476 km from Porto Alegre, and
705 km from São Paulo.
