PhD Studentship in Aspect Oriented Software Measurement
---------------------------------------------------------------

Centre for Information and Software Systems Engineering (CISSE)
University of Westminster, London, UK

Aspect Oriented Software Development is a recent fundamental step towards
the goal
of flexibility and adaptability to the various concerns of stakeholders and
users
of software systems. Software measurement provides information that gives us
an
understanding of these software systems and their quality and thus the
ability
to improve them. CISSE is looking to recruit a PhD student to investigate
this
exciting area. In particular, we are interested in developing a suite of
software
metrics for Aspect Oriented Software Design and Programming.

If you are interested please:

1. Contact Dr Sue Black: s.e.black at wmin.ac.uk with a CV, a brief proposal
of ideas for research in this area and a short paragraph detailing why you
would
like to carry out this PhD research.

2. Submit a formal University of Westminster application. The deadline is
Friday 15 June 2007. More details are available from:
 http://www.wmin.ac.uk/page-3158
If you have any questions or for enquiries about this studentship please
contact
Dr Sue Black: s.e.black at wmin.ac.uk

The studentship will be based in the CISSE at the University of Westminster,

a description of which follows:

Centre for Information and Software Systems Engineering (CISSE)
---------------------------------------------------------------

The CISSE exists to address current research challenges in the area of
information
and software systems engineering by conducting high quality research while
addressing
real world problems with practical solutions. We aspire to contribute with
pragmatic
and scalable solutions to the chronically enduring challenges of Information
and
Communication in Computer Science.

Research strategy and focus

Our research strategy and focus is on theoretical, conceptual and practical
contributions
to the development of Information and Software Systems (ISS) as epitomized
in today's
principles of agile development methodologies and highly dynamic and
collaborative
environments. This new context for ISS engineering moves from a
deterministic/mechanistic
view of problem solving to a dynamic process as characterized by iterative
cycles and
active involvement/participation of concerned stakeholders. Therefore, it
poses a new
metaphor of design, conceptualization and modelling with a people-centric
and, eventually,
conflicting views in ISS development.

This new metaphor in design thinking is already reflected within the
following areas,
where our current expertise and conducted research also spans:

• Software Engineering
 (e.g., Software Development / Measurement / Maintenance / Quality)
• Data and Knowledge Engineering
(e.g., Ontology Development / Evaluation / Management, Application of
Natural Languages)
• Web Engineering
 (e.g., Social Web, Web 2.0/3.0, Semantic Web, E-Learning, E-Commerce)
