A couple of quick pointers:

  + Look at the proceedings of the recent ACP4IS workshops.  Some of the papers
    there are relevant to your interest.

  + Look at the proceedings of recent RTAS conferences.  Some of the papers
    there are relevant to your interest.

  + Look at recent work on middleware-based real-time embedded systems by BBN,
    WUSTL, and others.  In particular, look at the "QuO" system from BBN.
